Ah, these are so beautiful Jessica. I was truly just thinking about how comforting it is when the smell of the neighbors cooking dinner wafts through the window. And yes: you're never alone.❣️
I found this whole post really soothing, Cate. I've been feeling that boulder since last week. I think a few of mine are: good bread, old movies (His Girl Friday is a favorite), and hikes.
I'm so happy to hear it, Tess! And same. I love all of these! Good bread with good butter: it doesn't get any better. And fun fact: Rosie is named after Rosalind Russell.❣️ Sending you so much encouragement.
Oooh, I love this list -- so much goodness. A few on mine: dog snuggles, pretty much anything cooking in my crockpot, looping walks, marveling at nature, helping out another person.
It's so true that when I most need encouragement, I forget the things that encourage me.
But when I'm able to trust that I am permitted to slow down; that things won't slip away completely if I let go for a bit; when I remember that the way things feel now is not the way things will always be; and when I'm reminded that other people feel their vigour wavering from time-to-time; all of this helps.
And then there are tiny, dear scenes that puff sweet air back into my tyres: the mini-mart manager resting a heavy, kind hand on a customer's shoulder while explaining; the slight smiles exchanged while passing a stranger in the morning; the thrush singing his heart out before the sun is up; my husband inserting his nickname for me into the lyrics of the song he's humming... All that beauty, it's almost too much.
And, of course, the singular, surprising, densely crafted body of work in this Substack. Good Lord, there's encouragement here for a lifetime! Keep up the great work, Cate. I can't wait for the workshop this week!
Heather! You write with such poetry, life, and heart—your note has greatly encouraged *me.* Picture me saying a big yes to all with the same wholehearted enthusiasm of that thrush singing his heart out before the sun is up! Can't wait to see you in the lab!❣️
"Especially lately. Especially always." Hear, hear.
Some of mine: My kid's laugh. The smell of dinner cooking. Knowing I'm never alone in what I'm feeling.

Thanks, Cate. Love what you're creating here.

These are all so beautiful, Christy. I need to know what a looping walk is! And thank you for reminding me of the magic of the crockpot.❣️
